7815 Description

In electronic circuits, voltage regulators are fairly prevalent. For a variable input voltage, they offer a constant output voltage. The designation 7815 has two meanings: "78" indicates that it is a positive voltage regulator, and "15" indicates that it outputs 15V. As a result, the output voltage of our 7805 will be +15V.
This IC has a maximum output current of 1.5A. However, because the IC loses a lot of heat, a heat sink is recommended for projects that use a lot of currents. If the input voltage is 20V and you are consuming 1A, then (20-5) * 1 = 15W is the result. These 15 watts will be converted to heat and dispersed.

How to Use 7815 Voltage Regulator?

This is an example of a 7815 IC application circuit shown below. To make this IC work, we only need two capacitors with values of 0.33uF and 0.1uF. The input capacitor is a 0.33uF ceramic capacitor that solves the input inductance problem, and the output capacitor is a 0.1uF ceramic capacitor that improves the circuit's stability. To work properly, these capacitors should be placed close to the terminals. They should also be ceramic capacitors, as ceramic capacitors are faster than electrolytic capacitors.
