BC546 Description

The BC546 is a high-frequency NPN transistor commonly used in low noise amplifier designs. It has a maximum gain value of 800 and a high collector to emitter voltage of 65V, making it suitable for high voltage audio and signal amplifier applications. The maximum load the BC546 allows is 100mA, which is an ideal value to drive relays, LEDs, ICs, and other transistors, etc.

The BC546 is manufactured in four different part numbers: BC546BC546ABC546B, and BC546C. The only difference between these four part numbers is their DC current gain value. For example, BC546's current gain value is from 110 to 800, BC546A is from 110 to 220, BC546B is from 200 to 450, and BC546C is from 420 to 800.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.What is BC546?
The BC546 is a high-frequency NPN Transistor commonly used in low noise amplifier designs. It has a maximum gain value of 800 and a high collector to emitter voltage of 65V making it also suitable for high voltage audio amplifier applications.
2.Can I use BC546 instead of BC547?
Instead of a transistor BC547, you can use BC546 or BC550, BC847(plastic surface-mounted package SOT23) as its equivalent.
3.How to safely long run BC546 in a circuit?
To get maximum long run performance from this device the user must not cross the max characteristic values of this transistor. Do not drive load above 100mA and above 65V DC. Do not use or store this device in temperature above +150 centigrade and below -65 centigrade. It is also recommended to use a suitable base resistor and always solder or attach the transistor in the circuit by checking the right pins, accidentally connecting the wrong pins in the circuit some time weakens the transistor due to which it not perform well in the long run.
4.What is the function of the BC546 transistor?
The BC546 is an NPN transistor meaning when power is applied to the base (control pin) it will flow from the collector to the emitter. Typically NPN transistors are used to "switch ground" on a device, meaning, they are placed after the load in a circuit.
