What is BC556B?

BC556B is a TO-92 packaging bipolar junction transistor with a wide range of applications. It can be employed in a number of general switching and amplification applications in electrical circuits due to its general-purpose properties. Because the transistor's collector-emitter voltage is -65V, it can drive loads up to -65V DC with a maximum current of 100mA.

Because the BC556B  is a general-purpose device, it can be utilized in a wide range of general electronic applications, such as as a preamplifier or in the preamplifier stages of electronic circuits. It can also be used as an audio amplifier or in the stages of an audio amplifier circuit, as well as for any form of general signal amplification.

On the other hand, it can be used as a switch to drive loads that draw less than 100 milliamps. The 100mA collector current is sufficient to power small loads in electronic circuits such as relays, LEDs, high-power transistors, and a variety of other components. This transistor can also be utilized at the output of microcontrollers because of the -5V emitter-base voltage.

How to run BC556B safely?

It is recommended that you do not drive a load greater than 100mA at -45V DC  with this transistor that you always check pin configuration before placing it in the circuit, that you use a suitable base resistor for the transistor and that you do not operate or store the transistor at temperatures below -65 centigrade and above +150 centigrade.
