BTA41600B Description

The BTA41600B is a 40 A standard Triacs. Available in high-power packages, the BTA/BTB40-41 series is suitable for general-purpose AC switching. The BTA series provides an insulated tab (rated at 2500 V  RMS ).

• BT indicates the series number.

• "A" represents that the device is insulated, while B would mean non-insulated. The insulation is provided on the Tab of the device up to 2500 volts.

• 41 = 4 and "one" zero, that equals 40 Amps.

• 600 is the voltage handling capacity, therefore here it's 600 volts.

• B represents the triggering sensitivity that's 50mA in this case.

• Absolute Maximum Rating  (at around 25 to 40 degrees Celsius).

How to use BTA41600B Triacs

The method of using BTA41600B is shown as follows.

The pinouts are connected in the same way as other triacs are. Let's go over them one more:

A1 should be linked to the ground at all times. The ground doesn't have to be the neutral of the AC; it might be any of the two main input wires. The other wire will be connected to one of the load terminals, while the load's second wire will be connected to the triac's A2.

Because the triac will conduct with every rising positive edge of the DC trigger, the gate should be linked to the appropriate trigger input, which must be a DC. The minimal triggering gate current is 50 mA in this case.

If an external triggering circuit is used, A1 should be connected to one of the AC terminals as well as the DC trigger circuit's ground.

 

BTA41600B Application Circuits

The triac BTA41600B is ideally suited for controlling  AC  loads such as heater coils, high-power halogen lamps, AC motor pumps, or simply motors used in dryers, blowers, and other appliances.

The circuit below shows how the device can be used to control heater coils in furnaces, induction cookers, and other appliances.

The above circuit can also be used for controlling AC motor speeds simply by replacing the heater coil with the motor wires.
