  • The device is based on a DS2490 1-wire chipset.

DS9490R vs. DS9490B

  1. The DS9490B is a USB bridge and holder for a single F5-size iButton. The iButton is securely held behind a latched door.

  2. The DS9490R is a USB bridge with a 1-Wire RJ11 interface to accommodate 1-Wire receptacles and networks.

  3. For a list of suitable 1-Wire network cables, refer to the Connectivity Matrix table in the DS1402x 1-Wire network cables datasheet. Both adapters are based on the DS2490 USB-to1-Wire bridge chip.

  4. While DS9490R works well with the DSXX line of sensors, using a direct connector with DS9490R while working with iButton can be difficult. As a result, Maxim offers the DS9490B, which includes a specialized holder for the iButton.

  5. The DS9490R and DS9490B consume 58mA in USB active mode and 0.5mA in suspend mode.

Where to use DS9490R

The DS9490R is a straightforward USB to the 1-Wire adapter. The 1-Wire standard is supported by a wide range of sensors and other devices from Maxim. When these sensors/devices need to be connected to a computer, the one-wire connection must be converted to USB, which is exactly what this DS9490R connector does. On one end, it contains an RJ11 connection that must be linked to the sensor/device through a cable. This RJ11 port can also be used to connect an array of sensors. If you're looking for a connector to link your 1-Wire sensor to your computer, the DS9490R is a good option.

How to use DS9490R

The DS9490R is a USB bridge that connects your PC to a sensor that uses the one-Wire protocol. The sensor must be linked to the RJ11 port on this connector before connecting it to the computer. Every one-wire sensor has two wires: one for signal/IO (also known as 1-Wire Data) and one for ground (a.k.a 1-Wire Return).

The RJ11 connector has a total of 6 pins, however, we will only use 4 for our application. The sensor can be powered by Vdd(5v) and Ground, with the OW pin linked to the sensor's a signal/IO pin and the GND OW pin connected to the sensor's ground pin. The signal ground (pin4) is distinct from the power ground (pin3) (pin 2). The following is a symbolic representation of the same.

How to use DS9490R

 

The RJ11 connector can also be used to link several sensors in an array. The DS9490R should instantly recognize itself when hooked into a computer because it uses the standard DS2401 IC and follows the 64-bit ID.
