L7806CV Description

The L7806CV is a three-terminal positive voltage regulator available in the TO-220 package. It has a fixed output voltage, making it useful in a wide range of applications. The L7806CV can provide local on-card regulation, eliminating the distribution problems associated with single-point regulation. It embeds internal current limiting, thermal shut-down, and safe area protection, making it essentially indestructible. If adequate heat sinking is provided, the L7806CV can deliver over 1A output current. Although designed primarily as a fixed voltage regulator, the L7806CV can also be used with external components to obtain adjustable voltage and currents.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.What is L7806CV?
The L7806CV is a three-terminal positive Voltage Regulator with several fixed output voltages, making it useful in a wide range of applications. This regulator can provide local on-card regulation, eliminating the distribution problems associated with single-point regulation.
2.Where are voltage regulators used?
Such a device is widely used in motor vehicles of all types to match the output voltage of the generator to the electrical load and to the charging requirements of the battery. Voltage regulators also are used in electronic equipment in which excessive variations in voltage would be detrimental.
3.What are the three 3 basic types of voltage regulators?
There are three types of Switching voltage regulators: Step up, Step down, and Inverter voltage regulators.
4.What are the principles of regulating the voltage?
The voltage regulation mechanism in switching voltage regulators involves rapidly switching an element connected in series with an energy storage component (capacitor or inductor) to periodically interrupt the flow of current and transform the voltage from one value to the other.
