LM323K Description

The LM323K are three-terminal positive voltage regulators with a preset 5 V output and a load driving capability of 3 A. New circuit design and processing techniques are used to provide the high output current without sacrificing the regulation characteristics of lower current devices. The 3 A regulator is virtually blowout proof. Current limiting, power limiting and thermal shutdown provide the same high level of reliability obtained with these techniques in the LM209, 1 A regulator. An overall worst-case specification for the combined effects of input voltage, load current, ambient temperature, and power dissipation ensure that the LM323K will perform satisfactorily as a system element.

How to Use LM323K

Connect an input filter capacitor of 0.33uF or more and an output filter capacitor of 0.1uF or more based on the output current to get a regulated +5V on the output pin when using an LM323K as a voltage regulator. Just remember that the input voltage should be at least 7.5V.

When coupled with a resistor, the LM323K can be utilized as a constant current source as well as a fixed voltage regulator. When used with an  Op-Amp, it may also operate as a variable voltage regulator, making it useful for a wide range of applications.
