LM335 Description

LM335 sensor is a precision temperature sensor that can be easily calibrated. It has a breakdown voltage directly proportional to absolute temperature at 10mV/°K. LM335 has a low dynamic impedance.  LM-335 operates on a current range of 400uA-5mA having resistance less than 1 ohm.  

 

LM335 operates as two-terminal Zener diode. At the temperature ranging from -40 degree Celsius to 100 degree Celsius, LM335 can be used for each type of temperature sensing purposes. This device is available in different dimensions and in different sizes. 

 

LM335 is most commonly available in the market due to its unique features including e.g. large temperature range, cost-effectiveness, low dynamic resistance, initial accuracy up to 1 degree Celsius. LM335 can be used at several different places. Its applications include Heat Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), power supplies, battery management systems, home appliances, embedded systems, etc.

How to use LM335?

Using an LM335 sensor is easy, just connect the circuit as per the below circuit diagram. There are two ways to use LM335 sensor, one is a basic temperature sensor and another is calibrated. To calibrate LM335 connect the ADJ pin to a 10K Potentiometer and adjust accordingly. When LM335 is calibrated at 25°C, it has typically less than 1°C error over 100°C. It gives a linear output.
