LM358D Description

The LM358D consists of two independent, highgain, internally frequency-compensated op amps, specifically designed to operate from a single power supply over a wide range of voltages. The low-power supply drain is independent of the magnitude of the power supply voltage.

Application areas include transducer amplifiers, DC gain blocks and all the conventional op amp circuits, which can now be more easily implemented in single power supply systems. For example, these circuits can be directly supplied with the standard 5 V, which is used in logic systems and will easily provide the required interface electronics with no additional power supply.

In linear mode, the input common-mode voltage range includes ground and the output voltage can also swing to ground, even though operated from only a single power supply voltage.

Where to use LM358D

The LM358D has several distinct advantages over standard operational amplifier types in single supply applications. It can operate at supply voltages as low as 3.0 V or as high as 32 V, with quiescent currents about one–fifth of those associated with the MC1741 (on a per amplifier basis). The common mode input range includes the negative supply, thereby eliminating the necessity for external biasing components in many applications. The output voltage range also includes the negative power supply voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.What is LM358D?
The LM358D consists of two independent, highgain, internally frequency-compensated op amps, specifically designed to operate from a single power supply over a wide range of voltages. The low-power supply drain is independent of the magnitude of the power supply voltage.
2.What is LM358D used for?
The LM358D can be used as transducer amplifier, DC gain block etc. It has large dc voltage gain of 100dB. This IC can be operated on wide range of power supply from 3V to 32V for single power supply or from ±1.5V to ±16V for dual power supply and it also support large output voltage swing.
3.What is the difference between LM358 and LM741?
Two commonly used opamp are LM741 & LM358. Difference between LM358 & LM741 is, LM358 is newer and have two OP-AMP on chip while in 741 only one OP-AMP is present. Both the IC's have 8 pins.
4.Is LM358 good for audio?
It's an op-amp. A lot of op-amps can be used as a component for an audio amp but they are mostly incapable of direct driving speakers. With 0V and 5V for supply rails the LM358 is capable of accepting input voltages ranging from 0V to 3V (Input Common Mode Voltage Range).
