LM386 Description

Power amplifiers like the LM386M-1 and LM386MX-1 are optimized for low-voltage market applications. The gain is set to 20 internally to keep the external component count low, but by connecting pins 1 and 8 with an external resistor and capacitor, the gain can be increased to any value between 20 and 200.

The inputs are all grounded, and the output is naturally biased to half the supply voltage. When operated from a 6-V supply, the LM386M-1 and LM386MX-1 have a quiescent power drain of just 24 mW, making them suitable for battery use.
