LMV358 Overview

The LMV358 is CMOS single, dual, and quad low voltage operational amplifiers with rail−to−rail output swing. The amplifiers is a cost−effective solution for applications where low power consumption and space saving packages are critical. Specification tables are provided for operation from power supply voltages at 2.7 V and 5 V. Rail−to−Rail operation provides improved signal−to−noise preformance. Ultra low quiescent current makes this series of amplifiers ideal for portable, battery operated equipment. The common mode input range includes ground making the device useful for low−side current−shunt measurements. The ultra small packages allow for placement on the PCB in close proximity to the signal source thereby reducing noise pickup.

Where to use LMV358

The LMV358 is a Dual Package Operational Amplifier, meaning it has two Op-Amps inside it, this op-amp has many optional features that we will discuss later.

The amplifiers is a cost−effective solution for applications where low power consumption and space-saving packages are critical. Specification tables are provided for operation from power supply voltages at 2.7 V and 5 V. Rail−to−Rail operation provides improved signal−to−noise performance and ultra-low quiescent current makes this series of amplifiers ideal for portable, battery-operated equipment. The common-mode input range includes ground making the device useful for low−side current−shunt measurements. The ultra-small packages allow for placement on the PCB in close proximity to the signal source thereby reducing noise pickup.

How to use LMV358

We can use this IC for general purpose applications like Weigh scales, comparators, adders, subtractors.

The LMV358 Op-amp is configured as a non-inverting configuration. The gain of the op-amp is set to 10. For that we have used a 1K resistor and a 9.1K resistor, as you can see for the simulation we have used a variable potentiometer by varying the potentiometer we can vary the input voltage and the output voltage will also vary, to power the op-amp we have used +12V and -12V supply, as the gain of the op-amp is 10 so if we provide 1V at the input we will get 10V at the output the simulated circuit shows exactly that.

LMV358 vs. LM358

What is LM358?

LM358 is a dual operational amplifier. The internal includes two independent, high-gain, internal frequency-compensated operational amplifiers, which are suitable for single power supply with a wide range of power supply voltages, and also suitable for dual power supply operating modes. Under the recommended working conditions, the power supply current and the power supply voltage Irrelevant. Its scope of application includes sensor amplifiers, DC gain modules and all other occasions where operational amplifiers can be powered by a single power supply.

The LM358 series is made using two internally compensated, two−stage operational amplifiers. The first stage of each consists of differential input devices Q20 and Q18 with input buffer transistors Q21 and Q17 and the differential to single ended converter Q3 and Q4. The first stage performs not only the first stage gain function but also performs the level shifting and transconductance reduction functions. The second stage consists of a standard current source load amplifier stage.

What is the difference between LMV358 and LM358?

LM358 is a general-purpose operational amplifier, while LMV358 is a low-voltage operational amplifier. Its highest operating voltage and lowest operating voltage are lower than LM358. In addition, LMV358 is an operational amplifier with full power supply amplitude.

LMV358 is suitable for low power consumption occasions. A more popular saying is that LMV358 is a low-voltage and low-power version of LM358, and the management and application schematic diagrams of the two are compatible.

The two are mainly different in the following points:

1. Using LM358 instead of LMV358 will consume much more power, more than double. (210uA and 500uA)

2. The power supply voltage is different. LMV358 can be as low as 2.7V and can be as high as 5V, while LM358 is much          wider. It can be single power supply 3V to 32V, or dual power supply ±1.5V to ±16V.

3. The output characteristics will be much worse. LMV358 has rail-to-rail output characteristics, while LM358 is much            worse.
