PIC16F690 Description

Microchip's PIC16F690 microcontroller is an 8-bit PIC microcontroller with a 20-pin interface. On the board is a high-performance RISC CPU that aids in the execution of instructions at a reasonable speed. A crystal oscillator with a frequency of up to 20 MHz can be connected to the board that generates the clock pulses.

The operating voltage of the PIC16F690 is the same as that of other PIC controllers, ranging from 2 to 5.5 V. Program memory and RAM memory are 7K and 256 bytes, respectively. EEPROMs have a memory capacity of roughly 256 bytes.

I2C,  SPI , and  USART  connections are among the other features that make this device compatible with a wide range of external components.

The ADC module converts analog values to digital values and is essential for sensor interface. The PIC16F690 is available in two packages:  PDIP  and  QFP , both of which have 20 pins on board.

The PIC16F690's Vdd is connected to 5V to ensure that the chip receives enough voltage to turn on. The PIC16F690's Vss is connected to the ground. These are the microcontroller's power pins.

It's the same approach for turning on the LCD. Vdd is connected to the +5V power supply, whereas Vss is connected to the ground. Pin 2 is Vdd, and pin 1 is Vss.

Pin 3 of the LCD's contrast adjustment pin is connected to the ground. We could connect to a potentiometer to provide contrast, but for the sake of this circuit, we'll just connect it to the ground. It should not affect your ability to see the screen. Contrast isn't normally an issue.

The ground is also connected to the read/write (R/W) pin. The LCD is in write mode when the RW pin is connected to the ground. For this circuit, we'll keep it in write mode because we'll only be writing characters to the LCD. We don't want to read the values from the LCD, hence it should never be set to read mode.

No resistors are required to connect the data lines from the microcontroller to the LCD via jumper wires.

The LCD's backlights will not be connected in this circuit.
