Silver- Oxide 6.8 x 2.6 mm batteries

Alkaline 6.8 x 2.6 mm batteries are less expensive than silver oxide batteries.  and they have a shelf life of 2-3 years, a nominal voltage of 1.50 volts, a cutoff voltage of 0.8-1.0 volts, and a capacity of 12-18 mAh.

The following table compares the most popular silver oxide 6.8 x 2.6 mm batteries.  along with their key characteristics and specs.

LR626 vs. SR626 Batteries

The following SR626SW watch battery  replacement chart compares and illustrates alkaline and silver-oxide 6.8 x 2.6 mm coin-cell batteries  :

Chemistry Alkaline Silver-Oxide
Nominal   Voltage 1.5V 1.55V
End-Point   Voltage 1.0V 1.2V
Notes Voltage drops over   time Very constant voltage
Typical Labels LR66, LR626, AG4 177, 376, 377, AG4,   SG4, SR66, SR626, SR626SW
Typical   Capacity 15-17 mAh 25-27 mAh

As one can see, LR626/SR626 batteries  are available in two different chemistries:

Alkaline LR66  /LR626 batteries have a nominal value of 1.5 volts, which reduces to 1.0 volts quite quickly over time.

When utilizing alkaline AG4/LR66/LR626 batteries.  sensitive electronics may have problems running at such low voltages and may have reliability concerns.

Furthermore, as compared to silver-oxide batteries, their capacity is 30 percent lower when drained down to 1.0 volts and up to 50 percent lower when drained down to 1.2 volts.

The nominal voltage of silver-oxide SR626SW batteries is 1.55 volts, and it remains rather stable when the battery is discharged. Furthermore, these batteries have a higher capacity, allowing for a significantly longer operation duration for several devices with just one battery replacement.

Note that some silver oxide SR626 batteries are designed as high-drain batteries and are more suitable for digital watches and similar electronic devices, while other SR626 batteries are designed as low-drain batteries and are more suitable for analog watches, digital watches without alarms and LEDs, thermometers, and similar.

Safety Concerns with SR626SW/LR66 Batteries

Small and shiny, SR626SW and similar button/coin-cell batteries can easily draw the attention of children and pets. As a result, smaller button/coin-cell batteries are available in pet and child-safe packaging.

If the SR626SW or a similar battery  is ingested, chemical burns can result from the electrolytic process, which occurs when bodily fluid short-circuit the battery

So, if an SR626SW or similar battery is swallowed, go to the nearest emergency room or veterinarian, explain what happened, and follow their advice.
