What is TDA7000?

The TDA7000 is a monolithic integrated circuit designed for mono FM handheld radios with few peripheral components (small dimensions and low costs).

The IC has equipped with an FLL (Frequency-Locked-Loop) mechanism with a 70 kHz intermediate frequency. Active RC filters are used to attain the i.f. selectivity. The resonant circuit for the oscillator, which selects the reception frequency, is the only function that requires alignment. A mute circuit prevents erroneous reception while also filtering out excessively noisy input signals. To meet the radiation requirements, certain measures are necessary.

TDA7000 FM Receiver Block Diagram

The TDA7000 is a great chip because it combines the RF input stage, mixer, local oscillator, IF (intermediate frequency) limiter, IF filter, amplifier, Phase demodulator, Mute detector, Frequency-Locked-Loop system, and voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) into a single chip, reducing the amount of tuning and tweaking required in superheterodyne receivers. Because there are few external capacitors and resistors, no external IF filters and only one variable coil and varicap diode, the TDA7000 is a wonderful alternative for people who don't have much experience with RF circuits.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a TDA7000 FM receiver?
A TDA700 FM receiver is an electronic device that receives radio waves and converts the information carried by them to a usable form. An antenna is used to catch the desired frequency waves.
What is the disadvantage of FM over AM?
The disadvantage of FM over AM is that in frequency modulation large bandwidth is required. While, in case of advantages, FM is less prone to noise interference and has lower power consumption compared to AM. So it is only used in frequency modulation and not in amplitude modulation.
How does a FM receiver work?
Radio is the reception of electromagnetic waves through the air. The main principle of this circuit is to tune the circuit to the nearest frequency using the tank circuit.
