Transistors - Bipolar (BJT) - Single

Single Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJTs) are fundamental semiconductor devices used in a variety of electronic applications.  They are composed of three semiconductor regions: the emitter, base, and collector. BJTs come in two main types: NPN and PNP.  In an NPN transistor, current flows from the collector to the emitter when a small current is injected into the base.  Conversely, in a PNP transistor, current flows from the emitter to the collector.

Characteristics:

1. Emitter, Base, Collector: BJTs have three terminals: the emitter, base, and collector. The current flow between the emitter and collector is controlled by the base current.
2. Current Amplification: BJTs amplify current. A small change in the base current leads to a larger change in the collector current.
3. Operating Modes: BJTs operate in three regions: cutoff, active, and saturation, depending on the biasing conditions.
4. Polarity: They come in NPN and PNP types, with different current flow directions.
5. Voltage and Current Ratings: BJTs have specific maximum voltage and current ratings that need to be considered in circuit design.
