Transistors - JFETs

A Junction Gate Field-Effect Transistors (JFET) is a type of field-effect transistor that uses the gate-channel junction as the controlling element. While conventional transistors are current-controlled devices requiring biasing with current, JFETs are voltage-controlled devices. Like MOSFETs, JFETs have three terminals: Gate, Drain, and Source.

What is JFET used for?

Junction Gate Field-Effect Transistors (JFET) are used in:

• Amplifiers (audio, instrumentation, preamplifiers)
• Switching circuits (low power consumption)
• Voltage-controlled resistors in analog circuits
• Oscillators for waveform generation
• Voltage regulators for stabilizing voltage levels
• Buffer amplifiers to prevent signal distortion
